Ampel-Pilot: Smartphone App for Pedestrian Traffic Lights
Ampel-Pilot is a free iPhone app developed by Torsten Strasser. This app allows your smartphone to detect the red or green phase of a pedestrian traffic light.
To use Ampel-Pilot, simply hold your phone towards the pedestrian traffic light. The app will draw a red or green box around the light, and a voice will inform you whether the light is red ("Wait") or green ("It's green"). Additionally, the app provides specific vibration signals for red and green, allowing users to differentiate between the two phases.
It is important to note that Ampel-Pilot is not suitable for navigating through road traffic. Users should always rely on their own perception when crossing streets.
Developed by 8 students as part of a semester project at Hochschule Augsburg, Ampel-Pilot is a useful tool for pedestrians to stay informed about the status of traffic lights.
